Lisa is a math teacher and mentor at North Kingstown High School. She has been teaching high school math since 1992. When students enter her classroom, she not only hopes to give them a strong foundation of mathematical knowledge but also strives to prepare them for a lifetime of learning. She fosters confidence and courage in her students, empowering them by maintaining a rigorous curriculum. Through the development of her students’ communication and study skills, she enables them with a resourcefulness which extends beyond her classroom.

Lisa has a tenacious excitement for teaching and learning. Lisa continues to learn about the teaching profession through her collaboration with other teachers regardless of their discipline, and through mentoring new teachers. As a mentor, she helps ensure her mentees’ transition to the high school is one which will foster professional growth and equity for the students. Lisa values her role as a mentor, as those collaborations allow her to continue learning about the latest pedagogy and technology trends.

Lisa is active in supporting her students’ social emotional growth. You will often find her organizing a fundraiser or decorating the school for spirit week. Lisa has been fortunate to travel extensively with a cross-disciplinary team of teachers and cohorts of students. These experiences have led her to expand her curriculum, integrating lessons about the history, language, math, and science of locations she has visited, and inspiring her students through global thinking.
